Chocks Away!

One of the great things about comping is that you have the chance to do some crazy stuff. Earlier this year I entered a Footlocker Instagram competition to win an action-packed weekend in London – to take part, you had to try on a pair of the latest Adidas Boost in Footlocker and upload a photo to Instagram with #approvedboost. I rushed to my local store and got an entry in on the final day – there were only a handful of valid photos submitted.

A few weeks later I had an email to say I was one of the winners! I won two nights in a London hotel, plus my choice of two activities, train travel to London and £300 towards meals and transport. I decided to book the break to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary – what a romantic I am!

On Sunday we checked into our hotel (The Mercure Paddington – smart enough but our room was miniscule) and then hopped on a train out to Blackwater for my first challenge – flying a plane!

At Blackbushe Aviation I joined my pilot Steve for a 30 minute flight in a tiny Cessna – he talked me through steering and let me do the taxi and take-off.

Once in the air we flew off towards Farnborough and then started on the fancy stunts. We did rolls, loops and corkscrews – Steve did them first, then I took over the controls. It was amazing – like a rollercoaster but better! After a while though, my stomach started to complain and I decided it was time to return to the runway. What a brilliant experience – unfortunately we were too far away for my husband to get any video footage of my aerobatics, although you might be able to spot my (almost) perfect landing if you look really closely at his Instagram movie:

Back in London we took the opportunity to meet up with an old friend for dinner and a few celebratory pints – after all, for once we didn’t have Ryland jumping on us with his usual 6am wake up call the next day!

On Monday, after a huge breakfast, shopping and a few competition photos at Selfridges and Carnaby Street, we headed to the Thames RIB Experience for a thrilling 70 minute speedboat ride from Embankment Pier down to the Thames Barrier. The James Bond music pumping through the speakers had me laughing like a drain!

The RIB was an unusual way to see London and the tour guide gave us some super snippets of information too. By the end of the hour, we had pretty wild hair!

Our next stop was afternoon tea and champers at BB Bakery

Tea

In the evening we strolled through Hyde Park, popped into the Met Bar for a cocktail, then to Nobu. When I left my job at The PrizeFinder in April, they gave me a Nobu gift card as my leaving present after spotting it was on my Pinterest wishlist – what a thoughtful bunch!

The tasting menu at Nobu was superb, especially the sushi. I love Japanese food and the chef surprised us with a few twists on the usual ingredients – adding pineapple, truffles and nuts. Oishii!

Dinner at Nobu

Even though I live close to London now (and Rob works there full-time), the break felt like a little holiday for us. It was great to do something totally different – thankyou Footlocker!
