Creative Kids Comps (Feb 2018)

It’s been a while since I did a round up of creative kids comps, but there are some fun ones around right now and with Half Term in a couple of weeks it should give you a few activities to keep them busy!

Win your illustration at the V&A & £100 of art supplies (ends 1.2)

Create an illustration of your own completely original fictional character and email to (open to 2-12 year olds). The winner will have their illustration framed and displayed at the V&A, win family entry to the Winnie-the-Pooh: Exploring A Classic exhibition, the Winnie-the-Pooh: Exploring A Classic book plus an art supplies gift voucher for £100 to spend at Cass Art. Win Summoner books for your school (ends 12.2)

For secondary school children (aimed at Year 7 & 8), kids can design their own demon and give it Top Trumps ratings. Summoner author Taran Matharu will judge the entries and visit the winning school – plus every student in Year 7 or 8 will win a set of The Summoner series of books. Win books for your school and Rhymecraft prizes (ends 16.2)

Write a poem about an imaginary land, and 7-11 year olds could win one of ten Rhymecraft goodie bags (if your child enters via school they could also win books for school). Find out more and log in for useful downloads on the Young Writers website.  

Win 500 books for your school (ends 22.2)

The BBC’s 500 words competition is back! Kids need to write a story in 500 words or less – there are winners in each of the two age categories (5-9 years, and 10-13 years). The 2 Gold winners will win Chris Evans’ height in books (6.2″) and 500 books each for their school. The 2 Silver winners will win The Duchess of Cornwall’s height in books (5.6″). The 2 Bronze winners will win their own height in books. In addition to these prizes, the 6 winners will be treated to a short ride in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the 500 Words Final on the 8th June and also join Chris Evans for breakfast on board a boat on the river Thames!

Win the chance to be Young Food Writer of the year (ends 30.4)

If your child likes writing about food, they can enter the Pink Lady Young Food Writer competition. Stories must be based on the theme of food and celebration, and can be up to 250 words (for under 10s), up to 500 words (11-14 year olds) or up to 750 words (15-18 year olds). Prizes for the winners include editing your own page in First News (or spending a half day at Delicious magazine for the older winner), books, apples and more. Find out more at

Win a Nintendo Switch & £250 worth of books for your school (ends 31.7)

Draw a picture or write a story about a new superhero character, complete with their name, secret identity (if they have one!) and superpower. The best superhero will win a Nintendo Switch and game, a £50 superhero book bundle and a £250 book bundle for their school. Three runners-up will win a £30 superhero book bundle.     Thanks Di I just got a wem saying my son won the Richmond theatre colouring competition! His first win at 6 years old :)…

      Fantastic! My first win was a colouring comp when I was 6 – he’s clearly destined for great things, ha ha!

        hah me too…I think I was about the same age and won a radio in the local paper! he’s got the bug too, lets hope he pulls that holiday out the bag 😉 x
