My entry to Appliances Online Craft Kids competition!

It can’t have escaped your attention that yes, Valentine’s Day is almost upon us! I’ve made a rod for my own back in that every year without fail I hand make my Valentine’s Card, but the wonderful thing now is that I have a small pair of hands to help out… poor old Ryland!

Over at the Mummy Blogger, one lucky parent will win a £50 Amazon voucher for blogging about getting crafty with the kids – so here’s my entry to Appliances Online Craft Kids competition. (sorry, I left it to the very last minute to enter – it ends at 8pm tonight!)

Rather conveniently, Viking Direct are running a Valentine’s promotion at the moment which involves making an origami heart, so we used this as our inspiration. We rifled through the recycling box and used up all those scraps of wrapping paper that are too small to cover anything decent!

Here’s a guide to what we did to make our basic heart – to begin, start with a square of paper, and fold corner to corner both ways…

As far as origami goes, this heart is really easy for a 3 year old to get to grips with, and it doesn’t really matter if it goes a bit wrong!

Ry then got out his favourite box of ‘sparkly bits’ and added ‘Christmas trees’ and ‘red noses’ to his hearts.

You can stick down the front to make them a bit sturdier, and pop a love note into the ‘pocket’ bit too!

And here are our finished hearts…

This is a super simple idea for Valentine’s Day – and a gentle introduction for small people to the magical art of origami!
