Win a games bundle from LittleBird (ended)
Take the stress out of Christmas this year with LittleBird.co.uk – a one-stop shop full of fun ideas and festive savings for you to enjoy with the family! With a mission to make family life easier, more affordable and more fun, LittleBird are always on the lookout for the best things to do, see and buy. Their hand-picked offers include family days out, theatre shows, events, activities, gift ideas, books, family breaks, parties, education tools and much more.
The LittleBird Festive Fun section includes ice skating at Tower of London and Hampton Court Palace, a Christmas Lights Tour of London, and festive cinema experiences. Gifts Galore includes some great stocking fillers – and Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a trip to the theatre! And of course, there’s also a great competition section where you’ll find some super prizes on offer.
One of LittleBird’s many partners is Orchard Toys, and I’m delighted to be offering one SuperLucky reader a great selection of games from their children’s range: What a Performance!, Football Game, Build a Beetle and What’s the Time, Mr Wolf?
Ryland and I have had lots of fun playing these games. We’ve been big fans of Orchard Toys since he was tiny – the chunky well made cardboard games are so easy to play and all ages can easily and quickly get stuck in.
Build a Beetle
The simplest game of the lot, I actually got the rules wrong the first time we played Build a Beetle and Ryland had to correct me! The first person to complete their bug is the winner – take turns to spin and then choose a piece that matches the number. Oh and watch out – you can’t add the antenna until you’ve got a head!
Ryland’s opinion: ” It was a bit fiddly to get the bug bits in but I enjoyed beating Mummy every time!”
What’s the Time, Mr Wolf?
This is actually two games in one, and perfect for kids who are learning to tell the time. Move your animals round the game board – when you land on a clock, read the time on the front and set the clock hands to match. Flip over the card – if you get it right, you pop the card onto your own collector board. First to complete their board is the winner – but watch out, if you land on Mr Wolf you need to feed a clock card to him! For the second version, you turn over your collector boards and have to be the first to collect all five clocks – by matching them to the cards on the table.
Ryland’s opinion: ” I thought this would be easy but some of the times are quite hard so I got them wrong!”
Football Game
Perhaps unsurprisingly, this is the game Ryland was most excited about playing! Based on Snakes and Ladders, you move along your own game board, moving forward and backwards. Land on a whistle and spin to get a free kick (roll again), a yellow card (miss a go) or a dreaded red card (back to the start). There’s a neat idea when you reach the end – you have to spin to see if you score a goal. If the ball covers any part of the goalie, you miss and go back down the board.
Ryland’s opinion: “Let’s play again! Best of five… no, best of seven! Best of nine?”
What a performance!
We LOVED this game and it will definitely be one to play when all the family visit on Boxing Day (allow time to push out all the cards carefully from the sheets before you play). Move around the game board, landing on different spaces – ‘Spin it’, ‘Forfeit’, ‘Make a noise’, ‘Who am I?’, ‘Action’ (you have a one minute timer to complete this – for example, it could be to find a blue item). There’s a small red magnifier included which shows up the secret forfeits on the back of the cards. If your child doesn’t want to do the task (or doesn’t understand it, as was the case with a few of our cards) they can choose to do the forfeit instead. This is a great game for building confidence – and you can play it in teams, which is helpful for smaller kids who can’t read very well.
Ryland’s opinion: ” I laughed so much when Mummy’s challenge was to get up off the floor without using her hands!” (gah!)
