WIN! A copy of Be Brilliant Every Day (closed)

Last year at the brilliant Tots100 Blog Summit in Birmingham, I watched a presentation by Andy Cope. It was inspiring, funny and hugely motivational. At the end, he gave me a copy of his book ‘The Art of Being Brilliant’. I rarely read books – mainly because I’m just too damn busy! – and so it was meant to be that the one of only two books I read last year (the other one was ‘Lucky Bitch’!) was a book all about ‘busyness’ and how to slow things down, get your priorities straight and concentrate on generally being brilliant. It was an inspiration!

Andy has just published another book: ‘Be Brilliant Every Day’. I cheekily tweeted him at @beingbrilliant to ask for a copy and a few days later it dropped through my letterbox. Perfect timing – I was heading into London the next day on the slow train from Brighton. I finished it in a day (and missed my station in the process).

BeBrilliant

The new book continues along the same lines as ‘The Art of Being Brilliant’, but with lots more entertaining and thought provoking ideas and quotes. The general idea here is that we’re all brilliant inside, we just need to let it shine.

I’ve been a student of the school of positive thought for some years – if you want to be successful at comping, you have to be optimistic. Mind you, having the nickname SuperLuckyDi puts me under a bit of pressure – I’m expected to be brilliant at what I do!

In 2013 I got into personal development websites – I discovered Denise Duffield Thomas (author of ‘Lucky Bitch’) and signed up to Beta test Happify. But sometimes it’s hard for us cynical Brits to appreciate the chirpy, upbeat, in-your-face attitude that’s so popular in the US and Australia. ‘Be Brilliant Every Day’ on the other hand, has a realistic approach that suits us perfectly!

Made a special effort to go down to New Zealand early January to visit my eldest brother. We never really knew one another when I was a child because he is 10 years older than me & had left home working by the time I was old enough to have a decent conversation. Anyway, he has Alzheimers now so I knew if I didn’t get to know him now I may never get that chance again – due to the illness. We had a wonderful time – he told me lots about Mum & Dads early marriage times & our family history that I never really knew. So, after loads of hugs & laughter, we left – probably will be the last time I get to share happy times with him. There are some advantages when someone can only remember the ‘olden days’. This week I can only remember the wonderful time I had with my brother, Robert
