Valentine’s creative competitions 2014

So, you’d better start scrabbling at the back of your drawer for the heart shaped cutter, and recalling those disastrous first date stories. Right up until February 14th, social media will be awash with the usual predictable competition challenges – ‘comment with your proposal story’, ‘tell us which food you love the most’, ‘upload a photo of your true love’ and so on. Try to think outside the box – something a bit funny or quirky. If it’s a Facebook comment or a tweet, do you have a photo you can attach to add a bit of ‘va va voom’ to your entry?

I had a practise this weekend with this romantic pudding – chocolate and walnut brownies, courtesy of Kitchin Suppers. They were delicious, especially served with Roddas clotted cream for their monthly #crownyourpuds comp. The dish is one of a set I got in the post-Valentine’s sale at Sainsbury’s last year and I’m hoping to use them for a few photo/recipe comps this year… the Ernest Jones recipe competition looks like a good candidate, with the entries judged by chef Alexis Gauthier – or how about this Thorntons chocolate recipe competition?
