Getting my comping mojo back!
Here in Brighton, the excitement of my new home – and my new hometown – has taken over. I’m spending my spare time gardening, painting, paddling in the sea with my son and searching for the perfect toilet seat. Comping has been all but forgotten.
Losing your comping mojo isn’t unusual – it happens to most long-term compers at least a couple of times. A new hobby or a big life-changing event (wedding planning, new baby, house move, new job…) comes along and suddenly you don’t have that spare time to dedicate to your comps. But no comping means no prizes – and what good is that when you’re ‘Super Lucky Di’?

Yup, I need to get my comping mojo back… and here’s what I’m going to be doing to ensure I’m back on the prize scene ASAP:
1. Updating my wishlist
I have lots of prizes I want to win – not only for my home and garden, but all the Christmas gifts too! Writing a list of the things you want to win is inspiring and motivational – and ticking them off is even better.
2. Listening to my local radio stations
I’ve already bagged a printer on Juice before I even moved to Brighton, and next week they’re giving away a holiday to Tenerife! There’s also Heart Sussex and Splash FM. Spirit FM has a weekly phone-in competition to win ice-creams too. Entry is often restricted to those with local postcodes, so there’s a good chance of winning.
3. Getting out and about
I’ve got into the terrible habit of doing my shopping online – mainly from Amazon or Tesco. Instead, I’ll be out and about shopping locally. Last week I found competition scratchcards in my local DIY store, and a comp in a newsletter at a plumbers merchant. After stopping for coffee at a local café, I returned home with 4 local free magazines full of comps. At my son’s new nursery, the parents’ lounge is full of the latest homes magazines, so I was snapping the comps on my smartphone there too. Tomorrow I’m going to drive to my local Tesco Extra for some serious shelf-scouring!
4. Reading Compers News from cover to cover
Sitting down with CN is one of the most enjoyable parts of my month – although I have a headstart on the content as I do the graphic design, nothing beats sitting down with the printed magazine and a highlighter deciding what I want to win!
5. Searching Twitter
This is such a simple way to find the prizes you want – go to www.twitter.com/search and make sure you click ‘All’ to show all results (this won’t work on your phone – the Twitter app only shows you the top results, so you’ll miss out on potential low entry comps). I’m currently looking for ‘win Brighton’ for local prizes and to discover local businesses and shops.
6. Looking through my ‘wins’ folders
I keep my winning letters, newspaper clippings and printouts of winning emails – I’ll be sitting down with a cuppa and reminding myself WHY this hobby is so amazing!
7. Going to my new local comp club
I’ll be driving to the Brighton/Worthing comp club in a fortnight’s time – and also going to the next London Competitors Club meeting. Chatting to fellow compers is a great way to get motivated, and find out about new comps! I’m even going out for drinks on Friday night with a Facebook comping friend – we might even manage some photo comps while we’re out on the town!
8. Doing some silly photo comps
I love my daft photo comps – as well as the Instagram comps I blogged last week, I have a few more candidates lined up for this week, including the fun National Lottery Monopoly Instants daily comp on Twitter.
9. Applying for TV gameshows
I’ve been on telly 8 or 9 times, but not since 2009 as it’s been too difficult to fit in around Ryland’s childcare. I love filming gameshows and I’ve just applied for my first audition in ages – ‘Timeline’ on Sky. Fingers crossed!
10. Blogging more!
I love sharing comps, tips and stories here on SuperLucky and it seems the more I share, the more I win – must be comping karma! So expect more exciting creative competitions coming your way soon….
Have YOU lost your comping mojo before? What did you do to get it back – and did it work?
