Weekend Winners
Back in the day, slogan and tiebreaker competitions were ten-a-penny. These days it’s rare to find one! This week’s lucky people all have a way with words…
Maggie won £500 of River Island jeans with:
“So cool in blue the #RIDENIM crew, want the look? Join the queue.”
Louise named the new Loaf mascot and won £250 of vouchers!
“I found the Loaf Facebook page quite by accident while searching for something else – I noticed they were having a competition to win £250 in vouchers to spend with them and all you had to do was think of a name for their “new laid back hero & mascot of Battersea Loaf Shack”…I looked down the list of entries to see what people had already gone for as I wanted to stand out – then a name just hit me out of the blue – Slowella. I thought all the connections they might be looking for were right there, slow for snails and to represent loafing around. Then I tacked ella on the end to make it flow better and sound feminine as they’d said she was a girl, perfect I thought! I was over the moon to win, especially as by the time the comp had finished there were nearly 600 entries!”

Megan won a bike from Babybel in their worst lie competition. Her fib?
“I used to tell my brother when he was younger that he was adopted from monkeys”
Jim wanted to win rugby tickets so he went for it in this caption competition – entering three times, and winning all three pairs of tickets!
“Brut were running a caption contest, the prize being, an all-expenses paid VIP day out to watch the Challenge Cup Final for 2, at Wembley. My sole intention was to win tickets for my dad and father in law, who are both rugby mad. I figured the best way to win was to think of a few captions and enter for my mum and wife too:

“Call a man a hooker, and you end up with a tight head”
“When the bottle said splash liberally around the face, this wasn’t what Brut meant”
“The guy on the right was desperate for his hard boiled egg”
When the winners were announced I was delighted, not only would my dad and father in law be going, they would be taking the rest of the family with them! We had a great day out, the game was great fun, the food and drink was awesome (champagne, beer, tea, coffee, soft drinks – all on tap) and the hospitality was superb, we all had an amazing time, and most importantly – the dads loved it!”
Amy Jo won four tickets to a Boozy Bingo event at The Breakfast Club in Brighton, with a £150 bar tab!
“I won the generous prize from a Facebook competition asking for a breakfast-related bingo pun. I went with “Time For A Brew – It’s Twenty T(w)o“, and was chosen by the promoter’s Mum which was very apt considering my own Mum had been a helping hand (I don’t think my initial idea of ‘Morning Brew – Number Two’ had quite the same ring to it. Ahem…) It was a great fun night with me and my mates knocking back cocktails and milkshakes, and eating our way through nachos, buffalo wings and pancakes. One of us even got to shout “BINGO”! Despite our feast of food and drink, we still had £25 spare which The Breakfast Club kindly still let me use at their quiz night recently. Even if I had been a paying customer, the Boozy Bingo would still have been great fun but it was even better being free!”
Milly won a hotel stay with her blogging skills:
“My favourite win of 2015 was a night’s stay at the Kingsley Hotel in Holborn. I have my own blog and have won some fab prizes thanks to my writing and photography. I’d definitely advise starting a blog and entering these kinds of comps, as they’re very low entry! This year, my post on the BB Bakery Bus Tour won me a stay at The Kingsley in a Junior Suite – worth over £200! What’s more, when I told them it was my boyfriend’s birthday, they arranged a lovely surprise to be bought to our room. Definitely a birthday weekend to remember!”

Thelma was chuffed to win £50 in the monthly Compers News slogan competition:
“Slogan comps are a rarity these days and, besides, seasoned compers who subscribe to this magazine are often very good at slogans. So I was well chuffed to win. The task was to devise, with a word limit of 15, your New Year’s resolution for 2015. I wrote:
Look to the future, extend my range
And bring about the wins of change.”
I hope you enjoyed this week’s stories – see you next time!

Thanks for featuring my story on here, and great to hear others have had good wins with slogans too. I think it’s a shame that tie-breakers are so rare nowadays really!
