2014: You Win Some…
Well, that’s about it for 2014 – another comping year comes to an end, and who knows what lies ahead! Those of you who’ve read SuperLucky for a while will know that I like to look back on my creative comping successes (and failures!) each year and reflect on what a fantastic hobby we have.
WIN! At the end of the post you’ll find details of how YOU can win a £50 Amazon voucher in my #SuperLuckyStories prize draw!
So, how successful was I in 2014?
In 2014 I won a total of 149 prizes, worth a total of £12,780. Unlike previous years, I didn’t win a single prize worth more than £1000 – but I did win lots of wonderful things, including a £999 PC for my brother-in-law and an annual Legoland family pass (if you’re wondering how I keep track of my prizes, check my guide to keeping a spreadsheet of your wins). My favourite prize had to be Glastonbury tickets, which meant I had the most fabulous 40th birthday celebration – these were won in a Tuborg tiebreaker competition on Facebook.
I devoted much of this year to redesigning SuperLucky, blogging, and getting started on my comping book. As a result the amount of time I spent entering comps dropped considerably – bizarrely, being a ‘full-time comper’ didn’t involve as much comping as you’d think, much to the dismay of the press who kept hounding me with the same old questions! But still, I did have fun with my photos and videos, so let’s look at the successful entries I’m most proud of from this year…
For 2014 pancake day fun I created a Screamdelica pancake, which won me a £50 bar tab at our local Young’s pub – spent on a family Sunday lunch!
Ryland helped me win a £100 Asda voucher where you had to take a photo of any product in their frozen range…
Footlocker Europe launched an Instagram comp which had less than ten valid entries – there were three prizes of a weekend stay in London with two activities of the winner’s choice, plus travel and £300 expenses. You had to try on Adidas Approved Boost and have your photo taken in Footlocker with the special mat – I spotted the comp the day before it closed and rushed into town to get the photo! You can read about the fabulous prize in my Chocks Away blog post!
In March I spent a morning finding and entering Mothers Day comps and made three videos, two of which won prizes – a £50 Accessorize voucher, and a L’Oreal goody bag. My Mum was also really chuffed with my videos, so that was a prize in itself!
Ryland helped to win me a video competition with this Vine of a favourite joke – it won £100 Ticketmaster vouchers with Scottish Friendly, which we used to see Horrible Histories and go ice skating on Ry’s birthday!
Being a Graphic Designer I was pleased when Smint ran a few design comps on Facebook. My poster design won me a GoPro camera!
We won a £100 Love2Shop voucher in a Tots100 photo challenge with ten Instagram photos from Ryland’s walk to school…
Lots of SuperLucky readers won themselves Sennheiser Urbanite headphones after I shared details of their ‘ear selfie’ competition – here’s my winning entry!
In September, Gatwick Airport & Norwegian Airlines joined forces to give away three pairs of flights to the USA in their Instagram competition, where you had to upload a photo of Americana in the UK. I won with this photo, taken by a waitress at JBs Diner on Brighton seafront. We’re flying off to New York in February (me and the family that is, not me and the waitress!)
Just after the work on our house was completed in September, I found out that our makeover photo won £500 of John Lewis vouchers in the Origin doors #CavetoCrib competition.
Radley gave away a handbag every weekend throughout December – you needed to upload a selfie with your desired prize in a Radley store, and conveniently I walked past one whilst in Nottingham – my selfie won me a £200 Berkley bag!
Morrisons asked us to upload photos featuring their Text Santa merchandise to win tickets to the live show, or Morrisons vouchers. I won top prize and took my friend Anya for an overnight stay in the lovely London Bridge hotel – and we had a great time at the show!
KFC ran a fun #KFCSharesies competition with five challenges in December, and I had my eye on the VIP trip to London Fashion Week with Front Row tickets (a prize off my wishlist!). To enter, you had to upload a photo or video of your best catwalk pose, so I roped in my buddy Carmen to help me out – we were successful and are off to LFW in February (um, but what the hell do we wear?)
My final big win of the year was in the Cloggs Pinterest competition, with my board of favourite kids winter outfits. I won a year’s supply of kids shoes (£360 Cloggs credit) – another one off my wish list! Follow Di’s board #CloggsLittleWishList on Pinterest.
All in all, a lot of fab prizes, but I’ve not created as many silly photos and videos as I would have liked to in 2014. I left it to the last minute to enter a lot of comps, and then simply ran out of time (ah, that’s given me an idea for a New Year’s Resolution!)
How successful were you in 2014? Did you keep a spreadsheet of your wins? Leave a comment and let me know!
WIN a £50 Amazon voucher!

Hi Di, just wondering if you have been able to confirm the date of the prize winning notification for this comp yet? Thanks Sandra
It will be after I’ve compiled all the entries into the usual series of ;SuperLuckyStories’ blog posts Sandra – unfortunately I’ve not had time to do it yet but I’m hoping to get the first post up in the next week or so and there will probably be four or five! Good luck! x
I was a teeny bit jealous when I saw you’d won tickets to London Fashion Week until I got a text from my Mum saying she had just won two tickets and did I want to go. Then I checked my Twitter and found that I’ve won tickets too! We have four tickets! Might see you there, if I can find something to wear.
I just got back this afternoon Lydia! Did you have a good time? I loved the catwalk show!
Yes, we had a lovely time. Great place for people watching! We had tickets for the Sibling catwalk show on Saturday which was really interesting. A mix of bizarre and wearable clothing! We didn’t have as deluxe a trip as yours, just catwalk tickets but it was still fun. I’ve just won £110 of London restaurant vouchers so that will be another trip up to town!
Well done! I had nearly a year off from comping after my dad died, so I only seriously started comping again in September. After reading about you keeping a spread sheet I decided to do one (Just in case I won anything) It was a good job I did because from October until end Of December I realised I had won £1300 worth of prizes. It’s surprising how they add up! Without the spread sheet I may have forgotten about some of the smaller wins, so thank you. I have made one for this year but nothing on it yet.
That’s great to hear Diane. Mo & I did wonder where you’d disappeared to, I’m sorry to hear about your Dad but it’s nice to have you back comping again!
Well done Di! Your smint one is fab and the recent Cloggs win was a good one – I’d missed this. I also won the loreal goodie bag which was so nice – so many lovely treats that I’m still working my way through. You’ve encouraged me to go and look through my winning pics of the year now! I wonder what 2015 has in store for us?!
That’s the joy of comping – you never know what these promoters have up their sleeves! Lots of cars to be won I hope! 🙂
I’ve been comping now for a number of years, and enjoyed some lovely wins throughout that time. I always keep a simple spreadsheet of wins as it helps to encourage me when wins are thin on the ground.
Good luck for the new year.
I love reading your year end posts – brilliant! Love the Elvis Parsley joke! xxx
myself and my partner won over £55,000 in prize between 2012 and 2013,thats gotta take some beating!!
Fantastic! You must be a pair of power-compers. If only my other half had that enthusiasm for comping!
maybe join forces with the competitions we come across?
Wow wow wow – was that a couple of big wins or lots of effort over the year? Well done
yeah, a £20,000 cash,a Hawaii holiday and a 15 day trip to new Zealand plus other smaller prizes.
That’s fantastic – well done. Must feel incredible to have those kind of wins. I’ve had a good year too. A couple of nice holidays to come, but never a big cash prize. Congrats
Wow brilliant wins! I go on maternity leave shortly so hoping to get a bit more comping time in 2015 .. well as much as you can with a newborn!
I used to get a lot of comps entered during the night feeds on my iPhone – make sure you’re fully charged and go for the Twitter & Facebook comps!
Hi Di, just wondering where i can find all the twitter video and photo competitions to enter. I use prizefinder which helps, i also use your superluckyme page, however i still seem to always miss a lot of them, any other places I could find them? I won a new phone a couple of months back on a cpw fb comp an HTC one M8 in blossom pink and want start using it in a creative way to enter these comps. Well done btw on your mega prize haul for 2014 🙂 x
You need to try Google & Twitter searches for the best creative comps – using a combination of words like photo, instagram, vine, video, upload, competition etc. and looking at the most recent posts! MSE is good too – search in the comping forum at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=72 for those words, or ‘effort’.
Thanks for the advice Di 🙂
I won two hampers in December – one of which was a bit problematic to claim/receive (thanks for your advice!)… and as that was the goal I’d set myself for this Christmas, I was very pleased! I have been quite lucky in the past with random prize draws, but reading your blog and FB page has inspired me to be much more positive and go for the prizes I really want to win in 2015… I even consulted hubs on my wish-list!! I’m going to be braver and use my brain more to succeed in these creative comps.
Here’s to 2015 being a successful year for us all!
Wow! Well done to you lot! I personally didn’t have a great December winning streak, but I did win me a new pair of ghd straighteners, 2 days after mine broke! It was fate! Haha, happy 2015 comping 🙂
Di, writing to you from Dublin where we are spending New Year as I finally won a big prize
How exciting! Well done Wattsie – hope to see you soon as a Scotland train trip is on my wishlist for 2015! x
Hi Di, I only started comping on 28th October and have racked up 16 prizes totaling £2000! My biggest win was a Luxury Break to Vienna, Austria which is booked for 28th March (sooo excited!!). I also won an over night stay at a Raddison Blu Hotel and NYE Party tickets! My other wins include a Star Wars toys bundle, posh umbrella, case of wine (That didn’t last long!! Hiccup) La Soiree tickets at the Southbank Centre (£120 quids worth!) And a lots of other little wins.
I did try my luck at an effort comp on Facebook with a well known Crisps company. They should have announced the winners by 19th December (From T&Cs) but never did. I private messaged them asking when they will be announcing the winners but never got a reply – Any advice?
Happy New Year everyone and hopefully 2015 will bring us all lots of luck! x
Give it until next week, then I would try another private message, then a wall post if no news! Things often get delayed over the holidays!
