50 weirdest prizes

One of the best things about entering competitions is the element of surprise – you never quite know what might arrive in the post next….

But comping isn’t always about the glamour of ‘biggies’ like holidays and iPads…. There are also little prizes that aren’t exactly what you thought they were – plus some rather strange runners-up prizes. And of course there are the fantastic unusual prizes too – my own favourites are a butler for Glastonbury festival and my Dad’s weight in chocolate!

I asked compers to tell me about the strangest prizes they’d won – and here are the top fifty…

My daughter won Lemar’s burp in a jar from a Channel 5 kids’ show. I had to give permission for her to accept the prize, I didn’t hear properly what the prize was but replied very enthusiastically something along the lines of ‘that’s wonderful thank you’

I have already made my entry, but as a matter of interest, can you remember a few years ago, a prize of something made of recycled elephant dung, I think it was stationery? That must be the ultimate in weird. I didn’t enter that one!

  4. priscillastubbs says:

Yes mine is there, one of my first prizes, a Tartan Army Songbook, I got a lot of stick from the family for that one. Thankfully things improved over the years

These are hilarious. I must have won some cr*p too – erm, I mean, unusual and surprising prizes – but my brain’s gone blank! Well done (I think!) all the winners of those gems. Especially – that did make me laugh – the inflatable flea!

  6. emmasfabulous says:

The flea! You couldn’t make it up. I won a year’s worth of tampons – when I’d just found out I was pregnant 🙂

  7. Sarah Lees says:

I was reading this when you first published it Di, thinking that I haven’t won anything weird enough to put on here then today I had a WEM to let me know I was the caption winner – chuffed as first caption comp I have won – and what’s my address for the Poop Pot to be posted to. POOP POT.

  8. Tiff Jordan says:

I won acupuncture on my face!!!

  9. Lorraine says:

An inflatable American football helmet. Which they didn’t even put enough postage on so I had to pay the excess.

  10. Mrs T says:

    colonic irrigation!!

My oddest prize was seven packs of tena lady towels. Oh and a trip to valencia where they made a lifesize cartoon version of me which they used as part of a sculpture for a week and then burned as part of the Fallas festival.

  12. TRACY HANSON1 says:

Wasn’t weird but my “goodie bag” – consisted of ONE PEN

  13. Lisa James says:

I don’t know if this is strange but just odd. Dowe Egberts Coffee were giving away 500g coffees and you basically just went on site and click after entering Name and address. It did not seem to me to be working properly so I kept clicking it a week later the post man knocked on the door with 20 500g containers of coffee, they had sent one for every click. Now that was odd lol

haha, these are brilliant! My current win is a month’s supply of milk, which is arriving two bottles at a time. Not the weirdest prize but I did win it by hunting for a bobble hat on a lamppost to take a selfie with. Other weird ones were lots of cereal bars all sent in individual jiffy bags, an Ashes merchandise set with dates written on for an Ashes series several years old!? (very disappointed as it was run by a big company) and, my personal recent favourite, a dozen frozen Pukka Pies “to enjoy over the Valentine’s weekend”. The pies was actually a great prize as I love winning food, but I got ribbed by my mates as they billed it as a romantic gift. Who needs roses anyway?

And I thought my “bodkin” was weird, hahaha! What a great list! 😀
