A finalist for a blogging award – are they MAD?

Last week I received an email to say I’ve been nominated and am a finalist for my first award – Outstanding Contribution to blogging in the MAD (Mum-And-Dad) Blog Awards. Wow!

I’m delighted to be in the company of some absolutely amazing ladies – @spewingmummy, @susankmann, @actuallyblog, @domesticgoddesq, @downssideup, @ghostwritermumm, @leighakendall, @mrsshilts & the wonderful @rainbeaubelle. These blogs are all worthy winners and I’m looking forward to celebrating – with plenty of wine of course – at the Awards Ceremony next week in London. Needless to say, my partner in blogging crime @anyaharris01 will be accompanying me and making sure I get on the right train home.

Despite featuring in the Tots100 and being eligible for the awards, SuperLucky isn’t a parenting blog – it’s very hard to categorise it! But in the six years I’ve been writing it, I’ve written about how the hobby of comping can be wonderful during pregnancy and motherhood. And how as your children grow, they can get involved in your fun art, craft, recipe and photography projects. I’ve loved sharing the adventures that Ryland and I have had as a result of my comping, and my kids competition round ups are a joy to compile. I write SuperLucky because I want to inspire people to take up this fantastic pastime – and many of my readers are parents looking for a rewarding hobby that will fit in around babies, kids and school runs!

At SuperLucky I’ve always supported other parent bloggers trying to raise their profile by hosting giveaways. Can you believe I posted my first Blog Comp Round up back in 2010? And five years on, my giveaway linky lists have bloggers adding hundreds of giveaways every month! I’ve even written a book to help bloggers set up their giveaways!

Of course there are also the posts I write to try and help promoters run fairer and more fun competitions. My rant about voting competitions from 2012 is still one of my most popular posts, and people regularly tweet it to companies! I’ve investigated why Like & Share comps and RT to win comps aren’t fair, and liaised with CAP about social media prize promotions and the CAP Code. I want to make sure that companies get their prize promotions right, and treat their entrants fairly and with respect – that’s what makes a great promotion, where both the promoter and the entrants are happy and excited by it!

I wouldn’t do any of this if I didn’t have the support of my blog readers though – and a big thank you for enjoying SuperLucky, sharing the posts and leaving me your comments and feedback. I’m really pleased to have made a difference to your lives, no matter how small! And I’ll keep blogging away until I run out of things to say about comping… which may be some time in the future!
