How to enter Blippar competitions

Blippar is an ‘augmented reality’ app where you use the camera on your smartphone or tablet to scan a product or advert. When you scan (or ‘blipp’), the app uses image recognition technology to see if there is content associated with that image – if there is, Blippar displays the content on top of the image by tracking it in 3D space. The content might be photos, videos, web links, games or – of course! – competitions.

There are several kinds of Blippar prize promotions. Some are an instant win mechanism, perhaps with a daily entry option, and you tap or rub the screen to see if you’ve won a prize. If you’re a lucky winner, an entry form will pop up to take your details. With others, you may just complete an entry form on your device to go into a prize draw. Other Blippar promotions involve taking a selfie in a frame, then sharing it on social media to enter a prize draw or competition.

How to use Blippar

• Download the free Blippar app for Android or iOS
• Open the app and point your camera at a Blippable item – this could be an advert, object or a graphic on a screen (or on a friend’s phone!)
• Tap the screen and wait for Blippar to recognise the item (the device may buzz if vibration is activated) – it will display related graphics or videos on the screen.
• Look out for on-screen instructions to follow – you usually need to tap the relevant area of the a screen to enter a comp, watch a video or interact.
• You may be prompted to log in to your social media account to share your experience or photograph.
• For instant win comps, if you’re successful an entry form should pop up to submit your email and address details.
• Look out for the star on screen when you blipp – tap it to save a favourite.
• Tap the camera icon to take a screenshot, then tap the phone icon (on the right) to save to your camera roll – this is useful to record a successful instant win!
• When you open Blippar, tap the three lines menu icon (top left) then choose Favourites or History to access your favourite and recent Blipps without having to re-scan (handy for the daily instant win games!)

Current promotions are advertised on the Blippar Facebook page at www.facebook.com/blippar – but be aware that Blippar is global, so some promotions may only be open to the USA or India, for example! You may also see Blippar logos in magazines as you browse them, showing there’s blippable content on that page.
