History of Home: a competition entry
What do you get most nostalgic about? For me, it’s the sounds of the 80s. Music, radio DJs, TV theme tunes… and the simple beeps of video games!
British Gas are hosting a bloggers competition to win £500 John Lewis vouchers, and asking us to share a photo of a favourite retro or nostalgic item in our home (competition closes on 12th September 2014).
I’m sharing a story of one of my oldest friends, a plumber called Mario. I first met him back in 1982, on my 8th birthday. He had an important job to do: rescuing a damsel in distress from a giant barrel-throwing ape. This early incarnation of Donkey Kong was one of the most thrilling and addictive things I had ever encountered!
32 years since receiving this wondrous gift, my Donkey Kong Game & Watch is still in full working order, and enjoyed regularly in our home by family and friends. Its simple design and beautiful beeps ensure it will always have a place on my shelf!
What gives you that warm, fuzzy feeling of nostalgia?
