I’m speaking at BritMums Live 2014!
Later this month I’m excited to be hosting a session on ‘The Dos and Don’ts of Blog Giveaways’ at BritMums Live in London. I’m really looking forward to it as I’ve not been to a BritMums conference before and the agenda looks excellent – if you’re interested, there are still a handful of tickets available on the website. My session is 9.30am on Saturday 21st June 2014, so I’m hoping to wake up the Friday night hangover crowd with talk of compers, complaints and comprehensive T&Cs!
In my session I’ll be offering advice to bloggers on how to run giveaways fairly and efficiently. I’ll be covering…
- setting up your giveaway – prizes, objectives & formats
- the importance of terms and conditions
- the CAP Code & ASA
- promoting your giveaway
- …and I’ll even be running a prize draw on the day for the attendees!
If you can’t make it to my session, I’ll be making my full notes available as a downloadable PDF after the event. Is there something specific you’d like me to cover in my session at BritMums Live? Leave me a comment and let me know!
If you’re attending BritMums Live, there’s a linky you can join, and see who else is going – answer these few questions so we all know a bit about each other too!
Name: Di
Blog: SuperLucky
Twitter ID: @superluckydi
Height: 5’6″
Hair: Color Mask Shade 400 by Schwarzkopf (it hides the grey)

Is this your first blogging conference?
It’s my fourth, and my second time as a speaker.
Are you attending both days?
Yes. Travelodge booked, and I’m hoping Anya doesn’t snore.
What are you most looking forward to at BritMums Live 2014?
Catching up with old friends and new ones, learning lots, getting emotional and of course, entering a few competitions!
What are you wearing?
Something that I won in a competition no doubt. Or perhaps a brand new fancy dress outfit?
What do you hope to gain from BritMums Live 2014?
I hope that I can give bloggers the confidence and knowledge to run organised, appealing and CAP Code compliant giveaways. I’m also on a mission to recruit more bloggers to the wonderful world of comping, and have a word with the brand reps about the joys of running creative competitions!
Do you have any tips to pass on to others who may not have been before?
I would recommend using an iPad or iPhone to take notes (I use Evernote and still refer back to my notes from previous conferences). If you enjoy a session, tweet or contact the speaker to let them know. And DEFINITELY enter the prize draws and competitions – you’ve got to be in it to win it!
Hope to see some of you there!

I’m not going to Britmums but I hope you really have a great time there. I’d love to know why sometimes (not just blogger rafflecopter but other organisations do it too) they say the winner will be chosen but then they say ‘get an extra entry by …tweeting, sharing etc’. Surely if it is being chosen, then those ‘extra’ entries are irrelevant? As a blogger who adores creative comps I’d love to be brave enough to run a creative comp rather than rafflecopter which can get boring but am really worried about the entries being too low. I’ve already simplified our latest rafflecopter giveaway to just 3 options but even that looks low entry now and I think the companies do look at the overall number without considering the ‘real’ number of entries.
I don’t like it when the comps been run fairly, you’ve done all the options, you win, and then never get the prize. I’ve been waiting for a prize from one blogger for a month now and it’s very frustrating as we promote their blog by doing daily tweets etc so seems very unfair when they don’t respond to messages about the prize.
Don’t like too many follow options or those that ask you to comment but use the system that bloggers use as you have to use your blog name and there is no way to link your entry.
I don’t enter Rafflecopters which ask you to ‘like’ several Facebook pages and follow a similar number of Twitter profiles, along with jumping through several hoops, for too long a period, and the prize is a £20 voucher! Not for me! I like competitions which have an element of skill, makes them more interesting.
I think sometimes promoters go over the score with their optional entries. Some of them are fair enough but when you get to option 22 on a rafflecopter form and they’ve got you jumping through hoops to win a lipstick or something it’s just ridiculous. I very rarely do rafflecopter now because of it.
I don’t mind following blogs etc but then some go on to ask you to comment on this post, that post and another post I never do these, also I come across some that run for 180 days way to long, I only enter if 30 days or less.
I see both sides as a promoter & comper, I understand the exhaustion of completing many different tasks but sometimes it’s the only way to get your platform seen. My main bugbear as a comper is when you have to do one thing to unlock all the others & you may not have instagram etc so it means you cannot enter that competition. As a promoter why would you want to prevent entries?
I think it’s best to have a single mandatory option, which is leaving a blog comment, leaving an email address or answering a question – there are many people who don’t do ANY social media and it’s a shame to exclude them from entering! The Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Instagram etc should just be optional….
Yes I think those mandatory options are fine, you’re on the blog anyway but yes people shouldn’t have to sign up to things just to enter comps. Some of us are a little behind the times 😀
