January prizes – and a trip to the BAFTAs!
2020 has got off to a super start for me! I’ve already won several exciting prizes, including a fantastic money can’t buy experience at the BAFTAs, thanks to a prize draw on the Metro website!
Here’s my latest unboxing video…
Our VIP night at the BAFTAs
I won my first trip to the BAFTA Awards twenty years ago, and I felt blessed to have the chance to do it all over again.
Om Sunday afternoon my husband Rob and I checked into the Radisson Edwardian Vanderbilt Hotel in London, and met the rest of the competition winners for a champagne reception in the bar, before walking to the Royal Albert Hall together.
We had the chance to take photographs on the BAFTA red carpet before taking our places in the special cordoned off VIP area for EE staff and competition winners.

We had a great view of the final section of the red carpet, and all the stars walked within a few feet of where we stood – Rob took all the photos while I waved and smiled, and oohed and ahhed at the dresses!
Although Brad Pitt didn’t make it to the ceremony, I was excited to see legends like De Niro, Pacino and Tarantino – as well as the younger stars like Adam Driver, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley. Having said that, I probably shouted most enthusiastically of all at Dermot O’Leary and Andrew Scott (Fleabag’s hot priest!)

We were ushered into the Hall and took our seats just in time for Graham Norton to start the ceremony. We were so high up! Look closely and you can spot Florence’s pink dress and John’s red suit down there on the front row…

We cheered and clapped for everyone, but most of all for Parasite’s Korean director Bong Joon-ho and the Rising Star Award winner Micheal Ward. After the ceremony it was back to the hotel for a three course dinner, cocktails and far too much wine. I sat beside a lovely comper, Tony, and his wife for the meal and we reminisced about all our favourite ‘money can’t buy’ prizes!
As well as the amazing evening out, all the prize winners also received an EE Goodie Bag with champagne, wine, a Paul Edmonds Handwash & lotion set, Lancôme serum and a Swarovski bracelet worth £119. It was an absolutely amazing experience and the PR team at Cake Group really looked after us well.

A brilliant win, Di. How exciting to win something like that.
Amazing experience!
What was the nature of the comp? Was it one of those, enter answer and email address and fingers crossed type ones?
Not even an answer required! Just a prize draw with name, email address and phone number. I rarely enter these, usually only for holidays, experiences or prizes on my wishlist!
What fabulous photos, you had a very good spot. . Lovely goody bag too! Would love to win a red carpet experience.
Your photo’s are fabulous. A red carpet experience has been top of my wishlist for years – still eluding me!
I live money can’t buy experiences. You and Rob looked fabulous too!
What a fab prize to win, I don’t enter many of those as travelling from West Wales costs a bit
Amazing!! I was thrilled to see your pics on Instagram. I’m so intrigued though about Joaquin, was he a grump because he refused to smile?
What an experience and what a goodie bag! So exciting 🙂
Joaquin just rapidly strode past everyone looking like he didn’t want to be there at all! I think the only reason he showed up was so he could use his acceptance speech to raise awareness of the lack of diversity in the nominations – but it’s something that he’s passionate about, so fair play to him for speaking up. He’s a serious soul.
I imagine him to be the type to not believe in celebrity stardom too. God he was amazing in the Joker. I struggle to understand the diversity issue as surely a film is based on its own merit, rather than race, as that would be positive discrimination?
Fabulous! Congratulations Di. Wow loved seeing all the photos you got from the BAFTAS – both you and Rob looked stunning too. What a wonderful treat for you both. X
Wow that looked amazing and some great photos.
Wow what an experience!!! I’ve never even thought of entering bafta comps – the stress of sorting out childcare for us I suppose – but I reckon within a few years they’ll be old enough to be left alone and it will be a whole new stage of comping. Well done – I loved reading about it and seeing all those amazing photos! X
Oh – the dreaded childcare! That’s the reason I rarely enter this type of competition, because it’s such a hassle. Luckily a friend owed me a sleepover favour so she had Ry on Sunday night!
