#SuperLuckyStories part 4: the misc mix!
It’s been far too long since my last #SuperLuckyStories post, back in March! After product placement, fabulous food and family fun, I now bring you the misc mix! It’s a selection of winning stories from SuperLucky readers in 2013, showcasing their creative and crazy competition entries. This is the last in this series, but next month I’ll be starting ‘Meet the Compers’, a new set of inspiring stories featuring a Q&A with compers both here in the UK and worldwide. I’m also happy to host one-off guest posts if you’d like to tell me about your adventures in comping – just drop me a line via my contact form here.
And now, let’s get started with some more of your 2013 wins!
Super Selfies
Lucky Lorraine spotted a tweet from Kenco Millicano during Eurovision asking for people to tweet a photo or video of themselves enjoying the UK entry, for their chance to go on holiday to the winning country!
“Quick as a flash I ran to the kitchen, and grabbed one giant Union Jack mug, and one of hubby’s collection of BBC mugs (he’s a giant anorak), and snapped a quick selfie of us… as it turned out not many people noticed Milicano’s tweet, there were only a dozen or so entries! Next day I was over the moon to receive a tweet announcing me as the winner. We spent three amazing days in Copenhagen, sharing the Tivoli Hotel with the Danish Conservative Party conference, drinking Carlsberg, and eating everything I could think of with the word “Danish” in it – bacon, pastries, blue cheese, biscuits, toast, butter…”
Rebecca tweeted her festive selfie during ‘Homeland’ on a Sunday night and won a Nokia Lumia – funnily enough, my own Santa selfie was also a winner in the same competition!
Also on the daft selfie theme, Amy won an LG Smartphone in their #expressyourselfie competition with this excitable photo!
Spooky shots
Halloween is always a great time for creative competitions, and last year there were some incredible entries. Rachel bagged a prize from Maoam for this sweet-toothed snap:
Jenny’s kids won £100 with their superb pumpkin carving efforts, which you can check out on Jenny’s blog.
And Gill bagged £100 of Pacsafe products with these ghoulish shots:
As for Lynne, she decorated a pair of knickers with a ‘Halo’ween theme using her cross stitch skills and won £500 of Tesco gift cards with Halo Wipes! “My pant decorating idea paid off twice in 2013, I won a washing machine with ao.com for decorating a pair of pants with the caption ‘with appliances online there’s no BUM deals’ and I won a luxury stay at Slayley Hall – so remember compers, flash your knickers any chance you get, you never know they could be your lucky pants!”
Perfect Pins
Viv did brilliantly with Pinterest last year – “I love creative Pinterest comps – you can take a number of days to make up an amazing board and I had some lovely wins.” Viv won a VIP day & night out in London with a ‘Paint the town red’ themed board:
Viv Gilbey’s board *My Perfect Party Night* on Pinterest.
Viv also won an eternity ring with this lovely board: Viv Gilbey’s board *Marlows Diamond Eternity* on Pinterest.
Luck of the draw
Tracey won a year’s supply of Mentos in a creative comp: “I had to draw a sunny pic, but containing the actual Mentos themselves. I won a year’s supply, which I counted 187 different packets. Many I have given away, but I do have a packet every time I go to the cinema…now I just need to win an electric toothbrush!”
Tracey also won a backstage tour to meet the Rock of Ages cast in a Facebook tiebreaker competition: “You had to write about your fictional 80’s band, and the songs they released. I went a bit mad, and wrote a mini-biopic, but it did the trick – we even went to the show in our full 80’s gear so we would fit in!”
Fashion forward
Inspired by his Mum Wen’s success at comping, Nathan won the first competition he ever entered with this lovely ‘stripes’ themed photo, and bagged £1000 to spend on the Joseph website. I think his parents must have given him some top tips as Nathan has won thousands of pounds of fabulous prizes in creative comps since his first win!
A fine Vine
Ste won a £100 Vue gift card with his fab ‘Life of Pi’ Vine: “The brief was to recreate a film storyline in 6 seconds – I had great fun making it with the kids one Sunday morning after seeing the comp on Superlucky!”
Thanks enormously to everyone who shared their prizewinning entries with me, I’m honoured to be able to publish them here for everyone to enjoy. I always get lots of positive feedback about these posts and hope they’re an inspiration for those of you who are still fairly new to ‘creative’ comping – it’s a really rewarding and fun way to enjoy our hobby!
Wishing you all the very best of luck in your creative comping – and I’ll be featuring more of your prizewinning entries in 2015!

Thank you for including me Di, its great to see what other people have won!
