The ten best prize promotions of 2024

As we come to the end of another comping year, it’s time to look back at the prize draws and competitions we enjoyed most in 2024. As always, I asked SuperLucky fans to share their own feedback on this year’s winners (and losers) before compiling the list.

So, here’s SuperLucky’s top ten prize promotions of 2024. This year’s list includes prize draws, instant wins, and photo comps. Some of these promotions were chosen for the high value prizes, some because they were creative and fun, and others because there was such a good chance of winning a prize. How many of these comps did you win a prize in? I entered 9 of these comps and won prizes in 5 of them!

Also can I say a massive THANK YOU if you spotted any of the comps mentioned below and took the time to share the details on the Lucky Legends forum or in the Lucky Learners Facebook group. It’s much appreciated!

If you want to be the first to hear about promotions with the best chance of winning, then check out Lucky Legends membership which gives you access to the private forum where you can find a list of my recommended “star comps”!

1. Cadbury Win a Day to Remember

Cadbury celebrated their 200th anniversary with some great promotions this year, but the highlight had to be the excellent ‘Win a Day to Remember’ which had thousands of tickets and experiences to be won instantly, as well as weekly prize draws. Entries were capped at 20 per person, and some SuperLucky fans reported winning 15 or more prizes including Merlin attraction tickets, F1 Arcade vouchers, and Sky Store vouchers. A really generous and fun instant win, but it was a shame winners couldn’t choose their prize as some ended up with tickets for attractions that were a bit too far to travel!

Reader feedback: “An amazing giveaway and so many families are having fun happy times because of that comp!”

2. Minor Figures Cash Reward

Purchase-necessary prize promotions tend to follow the same format so it was exciting to get involved with the fun Minor Figures Cash Rewards giveaway. MF is an oat milk with minimalist illustrative branding, and this was used in a really fun way for the competition. Entrants had to scan the QR on the carton, then had a time limit to choose a disguise for the cartoon character. After uploading a photo of your purchase receipt, you found out if you were an instant cash winner – but you didn’t find out exactly how much until you received a confirmation email! The 2,003 prizes, ranging from £4 to £1000, were sent swiftly by PayPal so the whole system was really smooth. Plus – you could win multiple cash prizes! Let’s hope we see more purchase-necessary comps on healthier products in 2025.

Reader feedback: “I liked the Minor Figures comp – it was a little bit different and cool with a good win rate!”

3. Ferrero Rocher & Tesco Text-to-Win

Tesco text-to-win promotions are really popular with SuperLucky readers, and when I conducted a poll in the Lucky Learners group, 50% of the 885 members that responded had won a prize in a Tesco TTW this year! Although we were sad not to see the usual Bonne Maman advent calendar comp this year, in its place was a fantastic festive Ferrero Rocher giveaway – with 750 prizes of a 96 piece Ferrero Rocher pyramid, awarded across weekly prize draws.

Reader feedback: “Tesco text-to-wins are fantastic, and I was excited to win such a showstopper prize in a no purchase necessary competition!”

4. Smyths Barbie 65

Sometimes the simplest formats are the best! To celebrate 65 years of Barbie, Smyths Toys gave away 650 Barbie toys in a free instant win promotion which you could enter five times a day! Plus, all entrants also went into a prize draw to win a bespoke family holiday up to a maximum value of £9,000. 50% of the Lucky Learners members who entered this competition reported a win, which is a fantastic result.

Reader feedback: “My little girl was over the moon with her Barbie dreamhouse playset!”

5. Sheba Confess

Sheba ran a promotion earlier this year combining all the elements of a great competition – lots of cash prizes, winning moments format, photo entries and judged tiebreakers too… the only disappointment was that I couldn’t actually enter, as I don’t own a cat! To take part, you had to confess the lengths you’ve gone to, to keep your cat happy – and you could share an optional photo of how your cat rejected your efforts. There were 1,060 instant win cash prizes up for grabs and if you uploaded a photo you were guaranteed a £1 money off coupon. As well as the instant win prizes awarded at random, six judged top prizes of £1,000 were given to the most creative confessions. Lucky Learners members did very well in this competition, picking up loads of prizes!

Reader feedback: “The format of the Sheba comp meant that everyone had a good chance of a prize, with a mix of random and judged winners!”

6. Kettle Win Virgin Experience Days every hour

It’s usually Walkers who make the top ten list with their hourly prize draws, but in 2024 we changed our snack brand allegiance when Kettle launched their hourly giveaway! With 12 chances to win every day, in total there were 672 winners of a £100 Virgin Experience Day voucher.

Reader feedback: “I like a competition with multiple chances to win, and the voucher prizes gave lots of winners the chance to make great memories”

7. Premier Foods Win a Dinner, Give A Dinner

A favourite with visitors to the SuperLucky instant wins list, this great free-to-enter promotion ran for ten months from January to October, and you could enter daily to see if you won one of 5,000 instant prizes. Winners could keep the £10 (supplied as a voucher) or donate it to FareShare – plus for every winning entry, Premier Foods matched it with a £10 donation. The promotion was widely advertised on a range of store cupboard essentials at Tesco, and it has done a great job of raising awareness for the FareShare charity network.

Reader feedback: “Although the prize was small you could win up to 4 times!”

8. Jet Local Pump Up to 70

Car prizes are few and far between, and Jet came up with an unusual Instagram challenge to award a Toyota Yaris Hybrid at the end of 2024. To take part, you had to fill up your car with fuel to an amount that ended in 70p (eg. £9.70, £23.70). Then you had to get a receipt and take a photo of the petrol pump showing this amount, and share on your Instagram story tagging @JetLocalUK. You could enter multiple times, with a new amount each time, and the winner’s car presentation was efficiently shared on Instagram within a couple of weeks of the competition closing! A great purchase-necessary promo with a twist on the usual format.

Reader feedback: “A fantastic prize and fun entry route – really well run!”

9. Smirnoff Drink Smart

Not all promotions need to have huge prizes to get people’s attention! In October, Smirnoff gave away 2,800 prizes of £10 Uber Ride credit. To enter, you scanned the QR codes in Co-op stores to reach an online quiz with five questions about drinking and driving. After completing the quiz you found out instantly if you’d won a voucher. A neat way to educate people about an important campaign, but also with the chance to win a very appropriate prize!

Reader feedback: “The promotion had a good message of not drinking and driving and was generous with the £10 Uber vouchers.”

10. Alberts Schloss Albert Airways

For travel lovers and photographers, the AlbertsSchloss Grey Goose promotion was perfect. They listed 75 worldwide locations (from Seoul to Antarctica), and the 3 ‘stand out’ photos uploaded for each destination won a £50 voucher to spend at any of their venues (with some being upgraded to £100). One lucky winner was also chosen to win a bucket list adventure worth up to £4000. Our only complaints were that T&Cs weren’t clear on how and when winners would be chosen – and the vouchers has a short expiry date.

Reader feedback: “This unusual comp was a nice excuse to go through favourite travel photos!”

Near misses…

There were lots of other fantastic prize draws and competitions that didn’t quite make it onto the 2024 list…

  • Premier Foods Who Stole the Recipe? is an enjoyable collaboration with the Cluedo board game. Free to enter, you choose a room and then hunt for and click on the hidden recipe on screen to enter the prize draw. Thousands of Cluedo games were given away.
  • A fun promotion that has been a regular on Magic Radio’s mid morning show is the Shell Tea Break text-in competition, with a £200 Shell fuel voucher given away each day to a listener who has texted in between around 10.30 and 11am. This is an unusual radio comp, because there’s no requirement for entrants or winners to speak to anyone (all the texts are simply read out on the air). If you’re a newbie to radio comps, this is a great one to start with, and it’s a standard network rate text (about 15p) – Lucky Legends members should keep an eye on the radio forum for news of when it’s on air!
  • The Extra Fruity Gum Mood-Boosting Breaks instant win had 103 fabulous prize retreats up for grabs.
  • Ribena Win Family Experiences Every Day awarded 1,119 prizes of experiences & cash in a great purchase-necessary instant win.
  • The Greggs & Oasis Meal Deal promo (40,000 prizes) and Five Guys photo prize draw (500 winners) on the Coca-Cola app were popular with Lucky Learners.
  • Prizes were plentiful on the MFG Wheel2Win instant win promotion – but winners had trouble redeeming the digital coupons, with staff refusing to accept them at many garages.
  • Pot Noodle ran a quirky promotion, giving away a total of £10,000 in cash prize “compensation” to 300 winners as an apology for their slurp adverts. Unfortunately T&Cs weren’t clear on how winners were selected – initially it was supposed to be the first entries that won, but it turned out to be a prize draw from all entries so many early entrants were disappointed.
  • The Twix Music free entry instant win with 505 instant win JBL speakers up for grabs was shared by Gyongyi on the Lucky Legends forum, and we had lots of early winners!

…and the WORST competition of 2024?

The Carex Fantastical Rewards instant win promotion was without a doubt the year’s worst. It advertised  ‘thousands of prizes’ (2,445 to be precise) of Alton Towers tickets and experiences. To enter, you had to buy a bottle of Carex and enter the barcode and batch code details at merlinmagic.biz – and every loser got a ‘Congratulations’ message with a £5 off code. It wasn’t clear how the instant win format worked, and despite multiple enquiries to Carex, they refused to tell me. The terms and conditions were altered during the promotion, changing a reference to open winning moments to precise winning moments, an instant win format which rarely has any winners. I’ve still not heard of anyone winning a prize in this promotion, and my formal request for a winners list was ignored by Merlin.

Reader feedback: “it was just a money off promotion”, “…with very few winners and that annoying ‘congratulations’ message that wasn’t even a real prize.”

But which other comps got a thumbs down?

  • The Pepsi Pass website offered lots of small voucher and merch prizes, but the slow log in mechanic and confusing user experience was a “lot of effort for little reward”
  • This year’s Fanta Halloween promotion was a disappointment for fans of the usual pumpkin collecting driving game! The overly-complex Beetlejuice game “was a nightmare to play” and “didn’t work with the AR properly so it was a slog to enter.”
  • Florette advertised 100 Jet2 Holidays to be won in their on-pack promotion, but the advertising was misleading as this was an algorithmic instant win format and only 3 out of the 100 holidays were actually awarded.

And that’s it for my list of 2024’s best and worst prize promotions! Leave a comment to let me know which were your top comps this year – did you win a prize in any of the ones I’ve mentioned here?
