This week’s comping shenanigans

Since winning my Flip HD camcorder, my comping has certainly gone to another level. Another level of insanity, that is. I’ve always believed that the harder it is to enter a competition, the easier it is to win – so those promotions that anyone with an ounce of self respect wouldn’t enter, now those are the ones that get me REALLY excited!

Have you heard about the Walkers ‘TOPIO’ promotion? You need to film yourself taking a bag of new Walkers Extra Crunchy, taking a crisp out and passing it out of shot (Take One Pass It On, you see!) Walkers are going to edit all the clips together and if you’re featured passing a crisp to, or taking a crisp from, Lionel Richie you win £1000! There are also Sony video cameras for best fancy dress, funniest share, most original share and most unusual location. I dusted off my favourite ninja costume, but you’ll have to wait and see if my film makes the final edit! You can enter your own video for this until 1 October (this closing date was initially 17 September, then it was changed to 24 September so I get a funny feeling perhaps there haven’t been many entries…?)

As if dressing up as a ninja wasn’t enough excitement for one week, on Monday I decided to film my entry for Renault’s ’12 Second Strip’ promotion down at my local dealership – and yes, I did warn them in advance! The idea behind this one is that you have to ‘race the roof’ of the new Renault Wind Roadster in order to win one. Now this was a challenge I couldn’t resist, so yet another fancy dress outfit was dusted off (actually, I’m lying. I bought it online last week!) and off I went to the Co-operative Motor Group. Here’s the result:

Again, if you search for ’12secondstrip’ on YouTube, very few videos pop up – and a lot of those that do look a bit staged! So hopefully this will be another low entry competition. Renault themselves are judging the winner – they are ‘looking out for the most fun, inventive and unique strips with joie de vivre’. Anyone else fancy a go? Entries for this one close on 30 September!

As you know I’m a fan of Facebook competitions – although not the voting ones as much these days after all the controversy. Chat Magazine often run silly comps on their Wall and when I saw their request for Ugly Jumper photographs, I immediately emailed my best friend Jo and got her to dig out this remarkable photo of a truly incredible jumper we knitted whilst we were University students!

Unsurprisingly, it was judged the winner and I won a new iPod Nano and a CD of 101 running songs. I’ve actually just got back into running since having my baby, so it’s perfect timing!

On Facebook I’ve also entered a photo of Ryland for the AlexandAlexa.com competition to win a pair of Diesel baby jeans (ends today!), a photo of Rob and I in the Go Outdoors monthly competition to win a £50 voucher, and a photo of me for the Sweaty Betty Street Style competition (ends 27.9). Thankfully, none of these are voting competiitons, but if you do have the urge to ‘Like’ the photos or leave a comment I’d really appreciate it – or why not get your camera out and get your own entry in?

Whew – so, that’s what I’ve been up to this week! I’ve also been filming footage for the Smart n Simple competition to win a Samsung Navibot and the Indesit Party Launderette competition to win £2000 of brand new kitchen appliances. And yes, these films will feature me making a fool of myself yet again – I bet you can’t wait to see them!
