Weekend Winners

This week I’ve got some lovely stories of those special prizes, where you’re made to feel like a real VIP! 

Vanessa won a really special prize for her daughter from Parentdish – the opportunity to be a flag bearer at the Capital One Cup Final.

“The prize included two tickets to the game, travel allowance, hotel at Wembley for the Saturday night, meals and Capital One goodies and rehearsals. This was an amazing experience for her and a proud moment for my husband and I. On Saturday she rehearsed with a few other children in an empty stadium and the next day, she told me that the atmosphere was totally amazing. She was nervous but did extremely well. I watched her from my TV screen and my husband from the stadium itself. She saw all the players but also managed a selfie with Ricky Wilson who was there to help with the event and the Little Legend team. A true priceless experience!”

Staying on the football theme, Gemma’s son got to do something rather unusual with his Arsenal heroes…

“My eldest son Alfie is a Junior Gunner and entered to win the chance to interview some of the players. He didn’t get selected to do the interview but they asked him if he’d play Pieface with some players instead (and he and my sister – an avid Arsenal fan- met most of the squad too). It’s on the Arsenal YouTube channel and he’s really proud of it (& so am I!).”

Kaye won a special trip to London with La Redoute:

“In November I won an amazing trip for my friend and I to The British Fashion Awards in a Facebook competition. All I had to do is say why I wanted to go –  I said “We are a couple of 40 something fashionistas with a passion for all things glam!. We had travel from Manchester, overnight accommodation and breakfast in Central London, plus Silver tickets to the Awards ceremony at The Coliseum with free flowing champagne and cocktails. We saw loads of celebrities including Anna Winter, Karl Lagerfeld, Stella Mc artney and Lewis Hamilton – there was even a Mac goody bag on our seats to top it all off!

Linda won a fantastic luxury trip to Barbados with Waitrose and Mount Gay Rum to watch the England  v West Indies Test Match.

“I deliberated whether to buy the rum, as it was purchase necessary, and finally succumbed and entered online. Imagine my surprise when a CONGRATULATIONS email plopped in my mailbox. Hubby and I, along with 7 other winners and partners, flew first class to Barbados, stayed in 5 star accommodation and watched the cricket in a hospitality box. We had a mixologist with us – to say we enjoyed ourselves is putting it mildly! Gary Sobell was in the next hospitality box and Levi Roots sat with us. Sadly, England were out in 3 days but at least we had a few days to sunbathe! What a memorable time we had… hic!”

Mary Beth got in touch from the USA with her story!

“I won a ride on the Zamboni (ice refinisher) between periods of a Boston Bruins hockey game. I put on my Bruins shirt and bear hat and had a ball – they gave us $200 seats for the game too! It was a text contest that was open to the New England states and was something that I had always wanted to do”.

And finally, a unique experience for Juliette (you can see her at the start of the video below!)

“I love the author Dorothy Koomson and have been lucky to meet her a couple of times at readings or signings so when I saw she had a competition to meet and chat about her books I jumped at the chance. To enter you had to write 200 words or less about why you enjoyed her last book, and what parts of it in particular. I am sure there were not that many entries, but even so I was totally delighted to be one of the 4 winners! We had to go to a house in Hampstead, London, and were put into hair and make up and then filmed discussing the book with an interviewer. We also had to take a photo of something special and discuss it. In the afternoon Dorothy joined us for lunch and joined in the conversation round the table, which is going to be made into a film discussing her books and her readers. I’m very proud to have been chosen and walked away with a signed copy of her latest book!”
