Win Usborne Computers & Coding (ended)

Usborne make the most fantastic factual books for kids, and since he was a toddler Ryland has regularly been found with his nose stuck into his favourite books from the ‘See inside’ series –  Human Body, Space and Recycling & Rubbish. A great addition to the lift-the-flap series of guides is ‘Computers and Coding’, a fun and fascinating tour of computers – and you can win a copy here at SuperLucky!

I was a big geek at junior school, and aged eleven I went to summer school to program robots. Most weekends I spent hours typing huge BASIC programs into my ZX Spectrum, making little quizzes and games. As I grew older I lost interest – although funnily enough, my first ‘real’ job in 1997 was working for a computer games company called Eidos Interactive. I was typesetting the manuals for Tomb Raider in ten different languages – but sometimes I wish I’d stuck with the programming!

Anyway, back to the book. Lift-the-flap Computers and Coding is a great way to educate kids (and grown ups, actually) about what actually goes on inside a computer. Although he’s only five, Ry’s reading is coming on a treat and he was fascinated by the book. Coding is on the National Curriculum for Key Stage 1, and this book simplifies it so children can understand.
