Lucky 10: our prize party in Glasgow!

Last weekend I headed up to Glasgow for the most fantastic compers party, and I haven’t stopped smiling since! My friend Andrea Goodheart (you may remember her from Meet The Compers) entered a competition on the Number 10 Hotel Facebook page, and won a party night with food for up to a hundred guests!

We originally planned a reunion for the guests on the Jet 2 Party Plane prize trip, but when a lot of compers said they would struggle to make it, we decided to turn it into a celebration of the Lucky Learners Facebook group’s 10th birthday, and all members were welcome to come along!

In the end around 75 compers joined myself and Andrea in Glasgow. The original Jet2 Party Plane captain Kirsty helped us organise the event, and on the evening I was also grateful to have help from SuperLucky Community Manager Gyongyi (who I met for the first time!), my friend Susannah – plus Chris (Lucky Learners moderator) who had travelled up from Cheshire!

Luckily Andrea was driving from the South coast up to Scotland in her supersized new camper van, so I was able to send her with all my props – a new SuperLucky pop up stand, my tombola, spinning wheel and shopping basket!

On Friday night Kirsty kindly used a Boom Battle Bar voucher she had won to book us in for an axe throwing session, which was hilarious (Kirsty won with 23 points) – spot the young photobombers in the photo below! We then enjoyed a feast at the Cosmo Buffet.

It was an early start on Saturday as I had arranged to do the Queens Parkrun with Andrea, Gyongyi and Chris (Susannah was tail walking) – it was a glorious sunny morning and although the route was incredibly hilly, it did mean there was a super view at the top.

After the Parkrun we spent two hours on Saturday filling goodie bags for the guests – I had won a hundred bags printed with my Lucky 10 logo from Jump Design & Print! There were lots of Tilda products,  Tunnock’s wafers, Taylors popcorn, whisky fudge and Postcard Store cards – plus Irn Bru, chocolates and coffee kindly donated by compers Vicky and Eilean.

We asked guests to bring along unwanted prizes for the raffle and we were absolutely inundated with donations – including loads of whisky! We raised £352.88 for local Glasgow Children’s Bereavement charity Richmond’s Hope.

It was brilliant to see so many familiar faces from Brighton Breezy comp club, the London Competitors Club, the Jet 2 Party Plane, ComperCon 2017 and my own SuperLucky Live event in 2019.

Excitement levels were sky high when twin compers Tiff and Lindsay realised there was another set of twins – Candice and Ursula! And it was lovely to reunite with Gilly and David, who were my road trip buddies in Oman.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a compers’ party without prizes, so to kick off the evening’s entertainment I had organised a few games and quizzes. After its popularity at SuperLucky Live, I revived my ‘Price is Right‘ challenge – where each table had to guess the value of my shopping basket of qualifiers! Vicky’s table got the nearest (around £1 over the actual cost of £21.27) and they got to share the products and receipts between them. I hope they get lucky with their entries!

My ‘Wheel of Fortune‘ gave guests the chance to win all sorts of prizes including Tesco and Amazon giftcards, scratchcards, Lucky keyrings and badges – and a top prize of Lucky Legends annual membership! I drew names out of a hat for the chance to play, and if I drew out the name of a guest who couldn’t make it I invited the bar staff to play too! We had lots of fun and lots of winners – barman Jordan won Lucky Legends membership and is keen to start comping!

I hosted two 50/50 quizzes where all the guests held up a can of Irn Bru for answer A, and a bag of rice for answer B until there was one winner left – the quiz themes were of course, LUCKY and TEN! Lindsay made it to the final two both times (the odds of that happening must be very small indeed!) and although she beat Martha in round 1, she lost to Kirsty second time round! The winners got a £10 Amazon voucher.

We also played ‘Pass the Cereal‘ where each table passed the Squid Game cereal round, and the person holding it when the music stopped had to sit down. This continued until we had a winner on each table, and then they competed for the final box (which had a gift card tucked inside).

After our Breakfast Roll & Pakora buffet, Kirsty surprised me with a special Happy Birthday Lucky Learners cake! Then it was raffle time, and we gathered all the guests together for one big photo before we cranked up the music for the disco!

The games didn’t stop though! Kirsty had been busy making lucky pants and we drew out three names from the hat to compete in the ‘Pull up your lucky pants’ game. The aim was to pull up your pants without using your hands! It was truly a strange sight to see Chris and Janet wiggling their legs in the air, but Sue was the eventual victor!

Next we taped out boxes on the dancefloor and blindfolded Steve, John and Tiff while they marched on the spot to ‘Cotton Eye Joe’ – the winner was the person who stayed in the box for the longest time (well done John!). Steve almost marched all the way back to his seat…

We ended the evening with a disco, a conga, and of course Scottish classics ‘500 miles’ and ‘Loch Lomond’ which got everyone on the dancefloor!

I’ve collated highlights and selfies from the evening into the Instagram reel below – hope you enjoy it!

It was such fun to host an event so far from home, and we had a whale of a time! Where would you like me to bring the SuperLucky vibes next time?
