2019: my comping year

Unbelievably, another comping year comes to an end in a few days – but it also sees the end of my second full decade of comping!

It’s traditional for me to reflect on the year’s successes – and the occasional failure! – in a review of my comping year. In 2019 I won a total of 93 prizes worth just over £7,000.

This is probably my lowest prize value for several years, but I took on a lot of voluntary fundraising commitments which meant I couldn’t devote much time to comping – I helped to raise over £6,000 for Ry’s school PTFA, £1,000 for Hove Park Colts Youth FC – and finally after 3 years of my ‘Save The Dyke Pub’ campaigning, we got our local pub open again. And of course I also spent ten months preparing for SuperLucky LIVE!

This year’s prizes

Back to the prizes though – let’s look at some statistics! I tracked my wins using a Google spreadsheet which gives me some numbers to share at the end of the year. Of my 93 prizes, 33 required a purchase, 2 were judged video comps, 3 were photo comps and I had one radio competition win. 4 prizes were won on Facebook, 10 on Instagram and 19 on Twitter. Like 2018, the majority of my prizes were from website entry comps and prize draws.

My favourite 2019 wins

I had a slow start to the year, but did win lots of tickets – Cineworld family tickets from Lidl, Thorpe Park tickets from Coca-Cola and Brighton & Hove Albion tickets from Cadbury!

In March Ry won Faber & Faber books with his World Book Day Matt Millz costume – plus the publishers sent the photo on to Harry Hill, who loved it!

On Instagram, I won over £200 of Cath Kidston prizes with this photo in their Mothers Day competition.

In April I flew to Majorca with 99 members of my Lucky Learners Facebook group when we won the incredible Party Plane prize from Jet2 holidays! Rylan Clark-Neal was our special guest – and we had a surprise Rudimental gig too! This was one of the most fantastic comping experiences of my life, and you can read all about our Jet2 Party Plane weekend here.

In April Capital FM and Radio X gave away two whopping prizes of £30,000 and £40,000! I didn’t win – but we had fun creating my Marshmello-inspired entry, and when I heard that two members of my Lucky Learners group bagged the grand prizes I was super chuffed for them!

In May I won £500 on-air with Absolute Radio, and in June my prize iPad from the BootBuddy competition arrived! Here’s my entry – you had to show your Boot Buddy brush in action, so we took it to an Albion match…

We also enjoyed a wonderful family holiday in Cyprus in May thanks to the £2000 holiday voucher I won with Jet2 in December 2018!

In October I did well in the Vanilla gift card prize draw at Wilko, winning £230 of pre-paid Mastercards – and in December I won £200 Asda vouchers thanks to Heinz!

Don’t forget! You can always catch up with all my prizes in my monthly round ups and unboxing videos on YouTube.

Blogging successes

This year I celebrated ten years since I published my first blog post on SuperLucky! In January I teamed up with some of my favourite brands for a set of #TenSuperLuckyYears giveaways, and in October I finally organised my first SuperLucky LIVE comping day. This was a great success, with 170 compers enjoying a prize-packed day out in Brighton! Read about what we got up to here.

And of course, the SuperLucky LIVE charity raffle raised an amazing £4,895 for Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice!

So all in all, a successful and busy year for SuperLucky – and for me! Thanks again to all my readers and everyone who enjoys and shares my blog posts, it’s really appreciated.

How was your 2019 – and how do you plan to make 2020 your most successful comping year yet? Don’t forget to tweet me about your favourite 2019 prize as you could win a £30 Amazon voucher in my Twitter competition – find out how to enter here!

    Happy New Year .
Lovely to hear all your wins .
I will try again in 2020 with more enthusiasm although I’ve only won a couple of items in 2019.

I now realise that this comping business is somewhat professional! Well done Di you are inspirational. I have only just started and feel a little overwhelmed but since reading your blog will take it one step at a time, focusing on perhaps two types of entries to begin with e.g. web and FB. Until I get a little more experienced. I now realise that time is wasted on certain comps so will redirect that time to something perhaps more fruitful. Thanks once again.

Thanks for sharing your wins, tips and advice so inspirational

  4. two whole decades of comping – how fantastic is that! Well done on all your ‘extracurricular’ non comping activities too this year such a huge success with all of them.

This year I’m planning to carry on focusing on winning as many experiences as I can for myself and family – as well as ticking off as many items on my wishlist as possible. I also want to dedicate a portion of my comping time specifically to sharing competitions I’ve found as I think that makes the community a better place!

It is so refreshing to learn of such an unselfish Compers and I am sure your beneficiaries are very grateful. I used to comp years ago and was a very active
comper winning regularly but am now very sedentary and need to rely on internet comps since my husband now has dementia and I am caring for him 24/7. Am not able to visit shops for for goods with comps on. However joined Compers Companion (where I used to win on a regular basis). I do find your imput to this magazine helpful. Relying now on internet comps and have won Gin as well as
socks in the last two weeks. I am finding now comping is more of a diversion to my situation when I am not attending my husband. Anyway Di, keep up the good work and thanks for the tips you give – much appreciated.
